Volcano of Violence is the second episode of season 2, Escape from the Bloodkeep.
Recap[]
"Last we left our vile villains, they were down in the forge in Ro-ro-ro-ro-ror-kin-drath, the Scary Volcano. This is the forge where Zaul'Nazh, The Lord of Shadows, first forged the circlets of eternal chains, and his One Crown. You have all surrounded the two halflings down by the magic anvil. This anvil is covered with glowing green runes in the Midnight Tongue, a gift from Gogmoth to his servant, Zaul'Nazh, all those long years ago. The anvil looks really fucking heavy. It's a big-ass anvil. There's two little halflings next to it, and Kasara the Beige, an Airu Spirit, and Telmeir the Calm, the father of Efink Murderdeath. And, a number of high elven warriors have just appeared in a blinding flash of light."
Synopsis[]
The Lieutenants prepare for battle with Kasara the Beige, Telmeir the Calm, and a host of elves in the caldera of the Scary Volcano. The elves begin charging down the walkway towards them.
Lilith opens the battle by using her Blood Spirit Totem to give her allies temporary hit points.
Galfast Hamhead carries Drova Longfoot towards the foot of one of the bridges to escape the Lieutenants, however, Leiland cuts off the halflings, and casts Circle of Death, surrounding Kasara, Telmeir, and many of the elves, dealing them a lot of damage. Kasara casts Fear, which frightens Lilith, Maggie, and Efink. However, Maggie goes into a rage, which allows her to suppress the Frightened condition due to her Mindless Rage ability. Efink uses the Staff of Storms to deafen many people and strike Kasara with lightning.
Kasara sends a radiant fireball to the center platform, dealing thirty radiant damage to Sokhbarr, J'er'em'ih, and Efink. Sokhbarr summons the Lava Mog, and casts Animal Friendship on her as she emerges from the lava in the center of all of the bridges. The Lava Mog caresses Sokhbarr affectionately, and deals him seven fire damage. Sokhbarr realizes that the Lava Mog is a brood mother, and could be carrying many baby lava mogs. After, he mounts J'er'em'ih, and rides forwards.
Markus St. Vincent follows and attacks Galfast with his short-sword, Fog of War. Galfast places Drova gently on the ground, and draws a frying pan in response, though Markus teleports past her.
A giant eagle swoops into the battle and drops Percival onto a bridge, who professes his love to Efink . Another giant eagle arrives and attacks Markus. The Lava Mog destroys a bridge, and an elf falls to their death in the lava. The elves continue to charge forward.
Lilith uses her Bonus Action to cause webbing to pull an elf off of a platform to their death in the lava. She then tries to cast Infestation, but fails, though she does successfully end the Frightened condition on herself. Galfast hits Leiland with her frying pan for ton of damage; Leiland reciprocates with his Hexblade's Curse and a lot of damage back with Griefmaker, Runeblade of Twilight. Galfast compliments him on his abilities with his sword, which he takes as an insult.
Kasara casts another spell with her staff, dealing a lot of damage to Markus, Sohkbarr, J'er'em'ih, Efink, Leiland, and Maggie. Maggie grabs a chain and uses it as a lasso to restrain an elf, while Efink tries to call for help but just gets Gogmoth's voicemail. Then she casts Sanctuary on Lilith to protect her. Kasara casts Banishment on the magic anvil, and Efink overcomes the Frightened condition. Sokhbarr rides a dashing J'er'em'ih up the causeway, conjuring four worgs behind the elves.
Percival attacks Markus, who mounts an eagle against its will to get away. Markus begins negotiations with it to switch sides. Galfast tosses Drova up to the other eagle, and it flies away with her.
The worgs dash up behind Kasara. The Lava Mog lifts up the bridge, as Sokhbarr requested. The two elves fall to their deaths in the lava, and the Lava Mog swallows Percival. Lilith pulls Telmeir into the lava with a web, and he dies. She casts Reverse Gravity, and three of the elves 'fall' upwards and hit the ceiling. Two of them manage to hold onto the floor, and the elf tied up in Maggie's chain flies up like a balloon.
Galfast misses two attacks on Leiland, who manages to land one back. Kasara dispels the worgs before attempting to fly away, but Maggie uses the balloon elf to fling herself at Kasara and kills her on impact, though she keeps the body restrained in the chains. The Banishment ends and the anvil reappears. Efink surreptitiously heals Percival, but Leiland and Lilith notice. Percival escapes the maw of the Lava Mog, and agrees to join the side of the Lieutenants.
This leaves a few elves, which are dealt with, and Galfast, who is knocked unconscious by Markus, who falsely congratulates Leiland on killing her.
Efink tries to get Percival to join the side of evil with her. He casts Spare the Dying on Galfast, and begins to tie her up. Efink badly role-plays Percival spontaneously agreeing to join the team; the rest of the team easily catch on, but begrudgingly agree to him joining. Markus and the eagle begin discussing the exact terms of their monetary deal. The Lava Mog gives birth to many baby lava mogs. The Lieutenants have won the battle at the Scary Volcano.
